Stephen Thompson believes UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya will “have a subject day” when he can take on hulking knockout artist Paulo Costa.
Adesanya and Costa will collide for the UFC middleweight title in the most important party of UFC 253 on September 26. Thompson, a hanging expert himself, thinks the kickboxing transplant Adesanya will go to work on the highly effective Costa when the cage doorway closes.
“I really don’t think about Paulo Costa a technical striker at all,” Thompson claimed on Submission Radio, rating Costa’s competencies. “I believe he’s a brawler. I mean, you see him do it time and time again, he breaks people. For a male that shredded and that significant, he’s got cardio for times, this male.”
“When [Costa] conquer Uriah Corridor first, he broke Uriah Corridor mentally,” Thompson continued. “He just gave up out there. And of program you are not gonna split Yoel Romero. And people fellas fought fairly a lot accurately the exact same, came ahead and swung for the fences.”
Although Thompson concedes that Costa is equally aggressive and powerful, he thinks those characteristics will play straight into Adesanya’s arms.
“For another person like Izzy Adesanya, he’s got the opportunity to end this person 2nd or third round,” Thompson reported. “Izzy is a counter striker. He waits for fellas to make their blunders and he requires benefit of it, and I think this falls proper into his match strategy, what he does ideal, for Izzy.
“Paulo Costa’s aggressive and he swings,” Thompson ongoing. “He’s obtained a lot of huge motion in his hanging, he loops his strikes, which is heading to be fantastic for a person like Izzy to just consider 50 % a action again and counter back again with a correct hand or a left hook. Form of like he did with Robert Whittaker, ideal? And Robert Whittaker I feel is more rapidly than Paulo Costa. The only matter with Paulo Costa is that he’s tough. He’s really, quite durable, he’s incredibly tricky to end. I consider following the 1st round, perhaps Paulo Costa, if Izzy can tire him out just a little bit, it’s going to slow him down, and Israel Adesanya’s going to be able to have a field day counter striking this guy. I think I got my man Izzy profitable that combat.”
What do you imagine of this breakdown from Stephen Thompson? Does Israel Adesanya have what it takes to quit Paulo Costa?
