When Cody Garbrandt was forced out of his flyweight title fight against Deiveson Figueiredo, Brandon Moreno was certain he’d get the call.
As a substitute, the UFC opted to go with Alex Perez, who Moreno (17-5-1 MMA, 5-2-1 UFC) was scheduled to deal with the exact evening at UFC 255 on Nov. 21.
Moreno was then matched up with surging contender Brandon Royval and, even with contemplating Royval is a deserving opponent, Moreno simply cannot have an understanding of why he was passed up for the title battle.
“The Assassin Baby” explained to MMA Junkie Radio that he was basically informed by the UFC that he’d be the front runner if anything took place to the Figueiredo vs. Garbrandt booking, which points out why he’s so pissed off.
“Even suitable now, I don’t know what took place in that minute,” Moreno told MMA Junkie. “When I knew about that, I was really let down, unfortunate even, mad, angry, but I can’t clarify what transpired. For me, I’m just seeking to keep truly targeted on my ambitions.
“I know Alex Perez is additional of a name than Brandon Royval. Brandon Royval is pretty very good. He has two fights in the UFC, pretty outstanding fights, but I’m just striving to be concentrated on Brandon. He’s amazing. He’s a seriously great jiu-jitsu guy, and he has palms, but I don’t know what occurred with the UFC. It is truly strange due to the fact in fact the UFC advised me. They reported, ‘If a thing occurred, you are future for the title,’ but I never know what happened.”
Moreno, who’s coming off again-to-back again unanimous final decision wins more than Kai Kara-France and Jussier Formiga, thinks his resume stacks up much better than Perez’s and that he’s fought more powerful opposition.
“Actually, the UFC gave me an rationalization, I’m seeking to even now be loyal with the UFC, but their explanation does not have any sense for me, and I don’t know,” Moreno mentioned. “Alex Perez is a big fighter, but all his history is in opposition to non-rated guys. Just his two fights versus Benavidez and Formiga. He beat Formiga, but Benavidez killed Alex Perez – and me, even my losses had been against leading 10 fighters. Alexandre Pantoja, Sergio Pettis, but all my wins, all my vocation in the UFC is versus leading 10 fighters.”
